About the Role
Working with and reporting to our Learning & Engagement Producer, you will be responsible for setting up, delivering and clearing up for school and family workshops on site. As a Casual Museum Learning Facilitator, you will be the face of the Brunel Museum for our schools and family audience and this role is vital to ensuring the museum operates to its full potential and students and teachers leave having had an enjoyable experience. Workshop delivery takes between 1 hour and 2.5 hours depending on the format, and set-up and clear up is usually about 30 minutes each side of the booking. Age ranges for workshops will vary and training in the workshop topics will be provided by our Learning Producer.
Key Responsibilities
- To prepare for the workshops, including the set-up of furniture, handling collections and PowerPoint presentations.
- To communicate with teachers and other group leaders during their visit to the Brunel Museum
- To deliver introduction for new schools sessions onsite at the Brunel Museum
- To clear up from workshops, including the return of props to storage and clear up after lunch bookings
- To work with volunteers in the galleries supporting the learning sessions at the museum.
- To fully engage with the training process for the museum’s learning sessions.
- There may be opportunities to support other areas and activities in the museum, depending on experience.
- Sending out post-visit survey
- Occasionally support the Learning Producer with ordering materials for school visits and family workshops, retaining credit card receipts for learning purchases in line with policies
- Report any borken props for schools and family activities to Learning Producer
- Undertake any training as required by the role
Skills and Experience:
- Experience in a visitor or customer related role
- A passion and enthusiasm for teaching young people about the past
- A flexible approach to working hours • Good relationship building skills
- Some experience working with children in either school and/or family groups, through paid or voluntary work
- Some experience of volunteering, preferably through managing volunteers
- Demonstrated understanding of the security and preservation needs of museum collections
- Good communication skills, both in person and in writing
- Experience of managing health and safety in a public environment
- Flexibility and adaptability
- Numerate
Desirable:
- Experience of delivering workshops to schools and organised groups in a museum or heritage setting
- Experience of marketing or promotion
- First Aid qualified
