Opening Times
We are open 10.30-3.30 on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays. We also open every day in half-term school holidays.
Tickets are released around 2 months in advance for prebooking.
How long does it take to visit?
We’re a small museum with a huge story! In general, we recommend around 45 minutes for a visit of the site, which is split across two buildings, the Tunnel Shaft and the Engine House.
What tickets types are available?
Standard: £10
Under-16s: Free
Members: Free
SE16/SE8 Locals: £2.50
Concessions (65+, students, disabled): £7
Art Pass: Free
All prices shown include a voluntary Gift Aid donation.
Why Gift Aid?
We receive no funding from the Government, so admissions are vital to helping us stay open to share the story of the Thames Tunnel and the Brunels more widely.
If you choose tickets with a Gift Aid donation, we are able to claim 25% of the value of the ticket on top from the Government – at no extra cost to you. Please do choose to Gift Aid your ticket if you are able!
What does my ticket include?
All tickets include access to both the Tunnel Shaft – the former pedestrian entrance to the Thames Tunnel – and to the Engine House which holds our collection and displays.
Can I walk through the Thames Tunnel?
Since 1869, the Thames Tunnel has been used by trains: it’s now the oldest part of London’s underground transport network. While the Tunnel itself does not form part of the museum, you can see the Tunnel by hopping on a train after your visit!
Do I need to prebook?
Prebooking isn’t essential; however, as we’re a small museum, it’s the best way to secure your preferred time slot.
How to find us
We’re located on Railway Avenue, London, SE16 4LF. The nearest station is Rotherhithe Overground (Windrush Line), about a 45 second walk from the Museum. If you come to us from the north on the Windrush line, via Wapping, you’ll travel through the Thames Tunnel to get here.
The nearest tube is Canada Water (Jubilee Line), which is around a 7 minute walk to the Museum.

Accessibility
As a unique heritage site, we have some quirks, and the site is not fully accessible yet. Please see here for more information on accessibility.
Luggage
We do not have space for large luggage; please avoid bringing suitcases to the Museum when you visit. Pushchairs and coats may be left at your discretion in a space provided in the Museum.
Café
While we do not have a café, we can provide lots of recommendations for cafés, pubs, and restaurants close by.
Animals
We are a dog-friendly museum, but ask that dogs be well-behaved and kept on the leash at all times.
