Congratulations and a cup of tea and cake to Gill who arrived Sunday at the end of a four day, 167 mile ride from Bristol to London. A Sustrans map is available here .
Forever associated with Isambard Kingdom Brunel, the city of Bristol is the start of this Great Western Way cycle route, while a museum dedicated to the Victorian engineer’s life is its end-point on the banks of the Thames in London.
The map is based on Ordnance Survey data and shows clearly mapped cycle routes on traffic-free paths, quiet lanes and roads, with easy to read contours, route profiles and mile markers. Lycra optional.
This week we had a very eclectic line up and a very full house for each event: Secret Adventure film & cocktails, Canadian dance with an environmental (and feminist) message and Japanese sand artists with dance, percussion and theatre. On the river, heritage boat trips and river walks as usual.
Next week is half term and for part of the day the Museum will be full of children! Mornings will be quieter, because families are invited to take the morning boat trip, then join Hallowe’en workshops in the afternoon. There will be spiders. On Thursday more Secret Adventures with film and cocktails in the Grand Entrance Hall, on Friday Gallery Singers return with the recently formed Gallery Brass for a concert entitled Space – Music of the Spheres. The concert is an exploration of the wonders of the universe through acapella and accompanied music, and includes a piece by Ed Rex called On that Pale Blue Dot (text by Carl Sagan). Ethereal sounds, tickets available here https://www.wegottickets.com/event/417995. Saturday sees the welcome return of Midnight Apothecary with a Hallowe’en Spooktacular but the return is so welcome the tickets are all gone. Some tickets still available for Bonfire Night Special the following week, and the Cabaret events that follow. And, of course, heritage boat trips and river walks…
