Monday 17th Feb: Keep the stench away!

Meet Sir Marc Brunel and listen to his stories of how his tunnel got flooded almost killing his son, Isambard Kingdom Brunel.  Did you know that in 1858 the river Thames was full to burst with wee and poo! Victorians called it “The Great Stink”. Can you image the smell?

Join us and make your own delightful smelling herb bag to ward off the stench, carry it with you like the Victorians used to do, you never know when you might encounter a stench!

Tuesday 18th Feb: Building bridges!

Join a Young Engineer Workshop that makes structural engineering simple! How strong is a piece of paper? How long can you build a bridge? Where are Brunel’s Bridges in London? What is the longest bridge in the world?

Design and build bridges using recycled materials whilst learning about the life and times of Marc and his son Isambard Kingdom Brunel.

Wednesday 19th Feb: Tunnel painting!

Learn about Marc Brunel’s first ever tunnel to be constructed under a river and be inspired to create your own watercolour of the tunnel. You can also have fun learning how to make geometric drawings.

Thursday 20th Feb: Sounds and Drama from the Thames Tunnel!

Visit our underground shaft where the first tunnel under a river was built, meet Sir Marc Brunel and listen to his stories, and be part of a ‘sound drama’ to recreate the noises of the Victorian workers.

Friday 21st Feb: Tunnel painting!

Learn about Marc Brunel’s first ever tunnel to be constructed under a river and be inspired to create your own watercolour of the tunnel. You can also have fun learning how to make geometric drawings.
