Richard has been a trustee of the museum since 2021, and was subsequently elected Vice Chair. Richard will take over from current Chair of Trustees, Dana Skelley OBE, on 1 July 2023.
Richard said, “I am delighted to be taking over as Chair from Dana. First and foremost, I wanted to pay tribute to Dana on behalf of all the trustees, staff and volunteers at the Museum, and thank her for all her incredible work over the last three years. Dana has led the Board through a particularly challenging time for everyone in the sector, but she has done so with tremendous skill and enthusiasm, and the Museum is in much improved position as a result of her leadership.”
Richard added, “This is an exciting time for the museum, with new and existing visitors continuing to come back to the site post-Covid and the redevelopment of the museum via the Brunel Reinvented Project about to get formally underway. We are also about to recruit up to four new trustees – more details to follow over the next few weeks.”
Dana has written a wonderful reflection on her time at the Museum, and all that has been achieved over the last three years.
Richard is Head of Collections Programmes at the British Library, directing a range of major strategic change programmes covering digitisation, digital transformation and library system development. He holds a number of external advisory positions including membership of the Management and Governance Committee for the Digital Preservation Coalition and the Steering Committee for Trinity College Dublin’s flagship digital programme, Virtual Trinity Library.
