Brunel Museum Marketing Internship

Hello! My name is Emma Searle. I am from Salt Lake City, Utah, USA studying Communications Media & Culture. For the past three months, I have had the opportunity to intern at the Brunel Museum as their Marketing Intern. During my time here at the Brunel Museum, I have been able to work alongside the Museums team, including the Director, Collections Access Coordinator, Event Producer, and Learning and Engagement Producer.

Involved in various tasks and responsibilities to create and distribute content such as videos, photos, blogs, infographics, and press releases on social media and traditional news outlets. I have used technology to communicate effectively to develop and implement outreach and promotional campaigns to boost brand engagement and increase revenue.

With the various events that occur at the Museum, I have been able to experience a wide range of opportunities while expanding my skills.

Here at the Brunel Museum, we offer event space to host corporate events, concerts, weddings, school visits, and private tours. There is always something happening here at the museum and it was a pleasure to be a part of the various occasions.

My favorite project that I was able to be a part of was with Gabriella the Learning and Experience Producer. In collaboration with Global Generation, Gabriella hosts the “Wild Things” Gardening Club throughout the year for parents and children to foster a deeper connection to the environment and the world around them. Through creativity with arts and crafts using natural materials.  I was able to help Gabriella set up the craft stations for the kids as well as filming and take photos during the event. I then created photo promotions and video reels to highlight the club on social media. Gabriella has been a great teacher and has helped me grow immensely during my time at the Museum.

Another project that has stood out to me during my experience was working with Jack the Collections Access Coordinator and the volunteers to put together films that highlight objects from the collection. We decided on specific items from the collection, then we created a script for a volunteer to speak on. I then filmed and recorded the volunteers as they spoke on the object. Creating multiple films showcasing the object and providing information on the history of the object. Posting these films on the museum’s website and social media pages. Working closely with the volunteers and pieces from the collection has opened my horizons of the many tasks that can be done within the Museum.

I am very appreciative to the Brunel Museum team and Volunteers for the welcoming atmosphere and their efforts of helping me gain this unforgettable experience. Thank you for my time here at the Brunel Museum.
